Here's a ship I'm working on: I don't know how to attachment. I still need to work on the stern. The bow is mostly complete in that I don't know what else to add. Those three or four pillars down the middle of the ship are my support beams for the floors. You can knock them out if you want.

I was going to use iron blocks for the ship, but decided wood looks better. And then it quickly became a Medieval style ship. My original ship I mentioned in this topic happens to be 100x the size of this one, or so it feels.
