So i have slowly been getting ready to change my valve stem seals, and one of the most important tools you need is a valve keeper tool. So everyone says you need the bluepoint GA317 which is $41 bucks plus whatever shipping is, and since im on the budget of a 17 year old, i figured i could find a cheaper on and i think i did. Its called the KD419101 and i got it off ebay for 12 bucks and 5. Sony Vaio Pcg-71911m Drivers Windows 7 there. 95 for shipping.
As far as i can tell its the same as the bluepoint, and it should work fine with our cars. I took a few pics of the tool aswell.
I've done valve stem seals before, but only on overhead valve engines, with the heads off. Since my build has held up so well, I don't want to take the heads off to replace the seals. But, I'm not finding the right tool to compress the spring to get the keepers off the stem. Can anyone suggest a tool that they know will work.
I've seen some on line, but it isn't clear they'd fit into the tight space we have on our quad valve per cyl. Any advice would be appreciated. (I have the stuff to pressurize the cylinder to keep the valve up). There is at least one special valve spring compressor on ebay for 90$: schley universal valve spring compressor model SL91400A.item number 75. This is the same tool i bought and used for rebuilding my 2.0 liter head.this tool will work for compressing the valve springs and removing the keepers (to change out the stem seals) with the head still installed in the car. You also need an air compressor and a threaded adapter with a 6 inch long hose (5/16 ID)so you can apply air to the spark plug hole. If you dont have a compressor you could insert some 5/16 or 3/8 inch nylon rope stuffing it into the spark plug hole so the valves dont drop down onto the pistons`when the spring is compressed.
